Mr. Chetan Maini, Co-Founder, Vice Chairman at SUN Mobility, is an Indian business magnate in the automobile industry focused on the clean mobility paradigm. He is best known for building India’s first electric car, REVA, and as the Founder of Reva Electric Car Company Ltd, now Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, where he served as an advisor. SUN Mobility, a joint venture between Virya Mobility 5.0 and SUN New Energy Systems, aims to be the leading provider of universal energy infrastructure and services to accelerate mass electric vehicle usage. Chetan is the director of Maini Group and co-founder of Virya Mobility 5.0. He is also an investor and on the board of several clean-tech start-ups.
From July 2013 to April 2015, Chetan was Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Technology and Strategy, and Deputy Chairman at Mahindra Reva, which he founded as Reva Electric Car Company in 1999. Under his leadership, the company sold 4000 vehicles in 24 countries and was ranked as one of the 50 most innovative companies in the world by Fast Company magazine. Chetan holds over 40 patents in battery and energy management systems in electric vehicle technologies. Over the course of 20 years, Chetan has developed six electric, solar and hybrid-electric cars in India.
Chetan has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2009, Business Week magazine named him as one of India’s “Top 50 Influential people”. He won the BBC Top Gear “Man of the Year” award in 2014 and the Innovation award in Energy and Environment by The Economist in London
